History of the Honda Civic

History of Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is one of the most special cars in automotive history. Versatile, high-quality, and stylish, the Civic has been around since the 1973 model year, and when it first arrived it was totally different from anything else on the market. The Civic has kept up the trend of innovating for more than thirty years.

Originally offered in both a hatchback and sedan, the Civic was called “without peer” on city streets by Car and Driver. Throughout its first generation, the Civic became popular because of its unparalleled fuel efficiency, which was further boosted by the introduction of the CVCC engine in the 1975 model.

In the second generation, the Civic switched to a more angular styling. The third generation saw the loss of the hatchback and added 4WD and other innovations.

The fourth generation saw a redesigned body and electronic fuel injection without many other changes. The Civic Coupe was introduced during the fifth generation, which also saw incredible fuel economy and excellent performance that made this generation popular among racers.

The sixth, seventh, and eighth generations saw the design of the Civic change with the times, becoming more modern, rounded, and sleek as the years went by. Originally thought of as a fuel-efficient and practical car, from its fifth generation on the Civic gained a reputation as a sporty, performance-driven car.

The ninth generation, which ended with the 2015 model, introduced ECO assist technologies, as well as ABS brakes, vehicle stability, and EBD. Now, in 2016, the new Honda Civic will bring back the hatchback and come with turbocharged engine options.
