If your Honda seems to be handling differently than normal, it could be a result of tire wear. The rate at which your tires experience wear and tear depends on your driving style, how much you drive and how well you maintain your tires. To avoid excess wear and tear, ensure your tires are always inflated properly — more on that below — and have them regularly rotated by our expert technicians. By taking care of your tires, you can prolong their lifespan.

Over time, your wheels can become misaligned, which can lead to your vehicle pulling to one side as you drive. Misalignment can also lead to damaged rims, suspension issues, uneven tire wear and even blowouts. Needless to say, it’s important to have your wheels aligned for safety reasons (and also to avoid expensive repairs). In general, we recommend having an alignment done every two to three years; however, your particular vehicle may need alignments more or less frequently, so consult your owner’s manual to find a specific schedule for your model. A tire rotation is a service where a technician moves your vehicle’s tires around, switching their positions in a particular order to help them wear down evenly and keep them balanced. This improves your vehicle’s performance, leading to a smoother, safer driving experience (and even better fuel efficiency)! Plus, it keeps your tires and suspension in great shape for longer.

You’ll find a label on the inside of your model’s door frame with information on the correct tire pressure (which is measured in pounds per square inch, or PSI). Your owner’s manual will also have this information. We recommend checking your tire pressure once a month. Wait three hours after driving before you check because a colder tire will produce a more accurate PSI reading. If your Honda has a tire pressure monitoring system, you may see a light on your dashboard to alert you if your tire pressure becomes low. Maintaining the correct tire pressure will lead to a smoother ride, better fuel efficiency, better stopping distance and traction and longer-lasting tires.

The penny test is an easy way to see if it’s time to replace your tires. Take a penny and make sure it’s facing toward you and upside down. Insert the penny into your tire’s tread. If you can’t see the top of Lincoln’s head, your tread is still deep enough to be safe; if you can see the top of his head, your tread has worn down and it’s time for a replacement tire. You would also need a replacement if your tire is punctured or cut, it has bulges or splits or the tread or sidewall is cracked or snagged.
